The experience
Four hours from start to finish: an hour on land covering scuba theory and safety, equipment fitting, and how to breathe and move underwater, then the dive itself in Casa Cenote's clear waters. A PADI instructor walks you through every step, starting in the shallow end of comfort and moving into the cenote only when you're ready. The cenote sits connected to the ocean and ringed by mangroves: a setting that feels like exploring beneath the jungle itself.
Once underwater, you're looking for barracudas, tarpons, bright blue swimmer crabs and moray eels. The water is clear enough to see them, and the instructor stays with you the whole time. This is not a tour where you watch. You operate the equipment, control your breathing, and move through the water under your own power. By the end of the dive, most people know whether they want to pursue the full Open Water certification or whether this one dive was the goal.
Round-trip transport runs from the dive center to Casa Cenote. The cenote entrance fee is included. You'll get a granola bar, fruit and water during the session. Children from age 10 can join, and the instructor speaks English or Spanish.
