The experience
You'll start on the gentlest dunes, where your guide walks through the fundamentals of stance, balance and how to use the custom sandboards made for each dune type. The mogote's three separate dune areas let you build confidence before moving to slopes with real pitch. All-terrain vehicles carry you between zones so you're not hiking in the sand, and the progression means you're actually riding steeper terrain by the end rather than just watching it.
The custom sandboards themselves are shaped differently depending on the dune's angle and sand texture, not a one-size-fit-all rental. You can also ride the sand sleds if you prefer. Safety glasses and wax are part of the setup. Beer and bottled water come along, and the whole thing runs three hours, which is long enough to feel like a real session but short enough to fit into an afternoon in La Paz.

Is this one for you?The progression through three dune zones means you learn on beginner terrain and advance as your technique improves, so the day suits anyone picking up sandboarding for the first time as much as someone wanting a real afternoon of descents without a separate lesson beforehand.
