Three dunes, then the water: sandboarding and paddleboarding in one morning

A half-day activity in La Paz where you sandboard down three progressively steeper dunes in El Mogote's natural preservation area, then paddleboard in the calm waters of the Sea of Cortez. The guide teaches safety and technique on the first dune so you can practice and improve across all three. No prior experience needed. Includes all gear, water, snacks and a lifevest. Children from age 2 are welcome.

The experience

You start on the gentlest slopes where the guide walks you through sandboarding basics (stance, balance, how to control your descent), then move to steeper dunes as you get the feel for it. The three dune areas sit inside El Mogote, a protected natural area, so between runs you see desert landscape most visitors to La Paz never reach. The all-terrain vehicles get you to each zone. The boards are sized for each person.

After the dunes, you head to the Sea of Cortez for paddleboarding in shallow, calm water. This is the refresh part. The contrast is deliberate. You get a lifevest, and the same guide who taught you on the sand is there if you need steadying. The whole outing runs 3.5 hours, which means you're back with the rest of your day still open.

Soda, water and snacks come with the booking. The guide speaks English or Spanish. Children can join from age 2 (they sit with an adult during the ride and can participate at the dunes and water depending on their comfort).

What’s included

  • Sandboards and paddleboards.
  • all-terrain vehicle transport to the three dune areas.
  • lifevest.
  • bottled water, soda and snacks.
  • live guide in English or Spanish.
