If you want to see a side of La Paz most folks miss, this tour is it. You’ll get sandy, you’ll laugh, and you’ll come back with stories that smell like salt and sunshine. The guides know their stuff and make sure everyone feels safe—even if you’ve never touched an ATV before.
Right after we met up at the quad center—just a few blocks from the Malecón—the air already smelled like salt and dust. Our guide, Carlos, handed out helmets and gave us a quick rundown on the ATVs. No fancy talk, just what you need to know to not end up stuck in the sand. I’d never driven one before, but honestly, it’s easier than it looks. You just need to be ready for a little bounce.
The ride out to El Mogote is something else. The sandbar stretches out, almost glowing under the sun, and you can spot pelicans gliding low over the water. We zipped past a couple of local fishermen fixing their nets—one of them waved, grinning at our dusty faces. The wind picked up tiny grains of sand that got everywhere (I’m still finding some in my shoes). When we stopped, Carlos pointed out how the sandbar acts as a shield for the city, protecting the bay from storms. It’s wild to think you’re only 800 meters from the busy Malecón, but it feels like another planet.
Sandboarding was a blast. The first try, I wiped out hard—sand in my teeth, but couldn’t stop laughing. The boards are easy to use, and you don’t need to be an athlete to give it a go. The sun gets pretty strong by midday, so bring a hat or scarf if you burn easy. We took breaks with cold bottled water, watching the light shift on the dunes. There’s this quiet out there—just the wind and the sound of your own breath after a fast ride down the hill.
Absolutely! Most people on our trips have never driven an ATV before. The guides explain everything and keep it safe and fun.
It’s about 800 meters from the Malecón—super close, but it feels really remote once you’re out on the sandbar.
We provide helmets, boards, and water. Just wear comfy clothes you don’t mind getting sandy, and maybe a scarf or hat for the sun.
Kids can join if they ride with an adult on the ATV. Just let us know ahead so we can make arrangements.
You’ll get an ATV (with all the protective gear), bottled water to keep you cool, and everything you need for sandboarding. Our guides are locals who know the area inside out—and they’ll make sure you have a good time, no matter your skill level.
