The experience

Mahahual sits on the Riviera Maya coast with five distinct underwater landscapes and three depth ranges to choose from. Most dives run between 45 and 90 feet, and the average visibility here is 90 feet: enough to see the reef structure and the life on it without guessing. All dives are boat dives, and the jetty is a short 10 to 15 minute ride from where you board, so you spend your time underwater, not traveling to it.

The day runs around three and a half hours total. You do two tanks with a surface interval at the beach in between, and the guide keeps the diver-to-guide ratio at 1:5 maximum. Depth and site selection follow your certification level and experience. If you're Advanced or higher, let the operator know before you book so they can plan accordingly. All SCUBA equipment is included, so you arrive with nothing but your certification card and your fitness for the water.

You control the bottom time within the limits of your air supply and no-decompression ceiling. The staff here builds the dive around individual needs and preferences rather than a fixed schedule, so if you want to move slowly or linger on a particular section of reef, that shapes the dive. No maximum time means you're not watching a clock. You're watching your gauges and the reef.
