Horseback Riding Loreto: Sea of Cortez Shores or Trails
Two rides, two landscapes: one hugs the water where dolphins jump. The other climbs into the hills.
Horseback riding in Loreto, Mexico offers two routes departing from Rancho Quest: a 1.5-hour beach ride along Playa La Negrita with views of the Sea of Cortez and Loreto Bay National Marine Park Island, or a more demanding trail through Arroyo de San Telmo with steep climbs into the Sierra de La Gigante foothills. Both routes follow historical missionary trails used hundreds of years ago. A live guide in English or Spanish leads the ride. Pickup is included, and bottled water is provided. Children from age 10 are welcome.

The experience
The two routes split the experience by terrain and effort. Playa La Negrita keeps you on the shore for the full 1.5 hours, riding past the islands and occasionally spotting dolphins in the water. The pace is steady and the footing is predictable. Arroyo and Hills trades the beach for the backcountry: you'll climb and descend through the arroyo, gaining views of the town, airport and islands from higher ground, with the Sierra de La Gigante rising behind you. That route is built for riders who already know how to handle a horse or who want the adrenaline of steep pitches and uneven ground.
Both trails run on the same historical paths the missionaries used to move goods between missions hundreds of years ago, so the ground itself carries that history. Rancho Quest provides the horse, the guide and the route. You bring the riding skill or the willingness to learn. Pickup from your hotel is included, and the operator provides bottled water during the ride. The guide speaks English or Spanish, so language is not a barrier.
