The experience
The boat leaves from Cozumel and heads to whichever reefs the weather and ocean allow that day: El Cielo, El Cielito, the Turtle Sanctuary or Columbia Reef are the usual targets. You'll spend the morning and early afternoon moving between sites, suiting up and dropping into the water to see what lives there. The crew handles the navigation and the boat stays anchored while you're in. They manage the timing so you're not rushed between stops.
Everything for snorkeling comes with you: mask, fins, snorkel and wetsuit if you want one. The boat carries bottled water and non-alcoholic drinks on ice, plus freshly prepared ceviche, guacamole and other snacks you can eat between dives. The crew speaks English and Spanish, so communication is straightforward. If your hotel has a jetty or pier, they'll collect you there and drop you back at the same spot when the day ends. Otherwise you'll meet them at the departure point in town.
Arrive 20 minutes before your sailing time. The boat is fully equipped with safety gear and well-maintained engines, and it's sized for small groups: eight passengers maximum means you're never crammed in with a crowd. Note that times shown are in Cozumel's local timezone, which may differ from your cruise ship's clock if you're sailing in.
