The Experience

Cozumel National Park sits in the second-largest barrier reef in the world, and this dive reaches it without requiring certification beforehand. The day starts on the boat with a theoretical class covering everything you need to know before entering the water. Your instructor walks through the concepts and the equipment so you understand how to move and breathe underwater, then you practice three basic skills in shallow water — controlled descent, mask clearing, regulator recovery — before committing to the open reef.

The first dive takes you to one of two reefs the crew selects based on that day's conditions and currents, keeping the site safe and manageable. You'll descend to a maximum depth of 12 meters with your instructor at your side the entire time. The reef itself holds turtles, eagle rays, and dozens of fish species in every color and size — the fauna changes with the season and the reef, so no two dives look the same. Once you surface, the boat serves lunch to refuel before the second dive on a different reef, giving you two distinct underwater landscapes in a single outing.

The complete equipment is included — tank, wetsuit, weights, mask and fins — so you arrive with nothing but your swimsuit. The instructor stays with you throughout both dives, and the groups stay small so everyone gets attention and comfort matters. The whole experience runs about five hours from start to finish.
