The experience

You start by piloting your own speedboat through the mangroves of Nichupté Lagoon, threading a route the guide sets. The speedboat is yours to navigate, not a passenger seat, and the mangrove passage is the reason this half-day holds two separate activities instead of one. Once you clear the lagoon, the Caribbean opens up and you anchor at the reef.

The snorkeling briefing is short and practical, covering what you need to know before you enter the water. You'll be in a group of up to eight people, all with the same guide, so the reef doesn't feel crowded. The water is where you spend most of the time: looking for tropical fish, sea turtles and the coral formations that make the Caribbean reefs worth the trip. Bottled water and showers are available when you're done, and lockers keep your belongings secure while you're in the water.
