The Experience

We met our guide just outside La Casa China Bacalar before the sky even started to change color. I was still a bit groggy — 6:30 am is not my usual hour for anything, honestly — but there was something about the quiet at that time, like the lagoon was holding its breath. Our small group stretched out on the dock while the guide (I think her name was Mar) explained how to use the paddle boards. I tried to look confident but nearly lost my balance just standing up.
