You'll meet your bilingual guide at Casa China Bacalar marina, where you'll get a 10-minute safety induction and learn the equipment before you push off. A short stretching warm-up readies you for the paddle, and then you're on the water heading toward the cenote's mirror-flat surface: the conditions that make the early start worth it.

The paddle takes you through a charming channel to your first swimming point, where you slip into the warm water just as the sun breaks the horizon and fills the sky with color. This is the moment the activity is built around: you're in the water, the light is changing, and the day is beginning around you. After you cool off, you paddle on toward the bird sanctuary, where depending on the season you'll see endemic and migratory species moving through the trees. This is where the floating picnic happens: healthy snacks and natural fruit drinks while the birds provide the soundtrack.
