The experience

You board a comfortable pontoon boat at the port and spend the morning cruising turquoise water past stromatolites, the oldest living things on Earth, while the guide points out the history and geography of the lagoon. The boat stops at Pirates Canal, three different cenotes where the water runs clear enough to see the bottom, and Bird Island, a small sanctuary in the middle of the water. Along the way, seasonal fruit and natural drinks keep you refreshed, and the shaded canopy means you're not baking in the sun for three hours.

When you return to port, the tour doesn't end with a drop-off.
