The Experience

The catamaran Wind Dancer leaves Grand Baie in the early morning, which is the whole reason you get the islands to yourself. After about an hour of sailing, you'll pass Gunner's Quoin and Flat Island — both ringed by sea-cliffs where tropicbirds nest and soar overhead. The boat then anchors at Flat Island and Gabriel Island, where you can snorkel in the lagoon or lie on the sandbar that Gabriel Island is known for. Snorkeling equipment is provided, and the water holds colorful reef fish and the chance to spot dolphins or whales on the crossing.

Lunch is a barbecue served onboard — fish, chicken, sausages, potato salad, pasta salad, garlic bread and green salad, with a vegetarian curry available on request and all food prepared Halal. Soft drinks, beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages are included throughout the day, along with coffee and tea. On the return to Grand Baie, you make a final stop at Gunner's Quoin's natural aquarium to swim and snorkel among the reef fish one more time.

The full day runs eight hours from departure to return. A live guide in English or French narrates the voyage and the stops. The boat is comfortable and well-maintained, and the early departure time is what makes it possible to spend unhurried time at each island instead of anchoring in a queue.
