The experience

The day starts with a private boat crossing from Malta to Gozo (no ferry queue, no waiting), and ends the same way. Once on the island, you ride in an open-air 6-seater UTV, not a closed vehicle, so the wind and the views of Comino and the coastline stay with you the whole time. The route hits Qala Belvedere first for an introduction and the overlook, then moves through the island's landmarks: the Ggantija Temples from the Neolithic Era (optional entry, separate fee), Calypso Cave's viewing platform, the salt pans where you walk and photograph, and Ta'Pinu shrine, which gained fame in 1883 when the Virgin Mary's voice was reported there. Two Popes have visited. The architecture alone justifies the stop.

Stops come roughly every ten minutes, and your driver speaks English, Italian, French or German. You choose which language you want for the explanations at each one. Lunch is a three-course meal served near the Rotunda of St John the Baptist in Xewkija, a church with the third largest unsupported dome in the world. The Citadel, an ancient fortified city occupied since prehistoric times, gets its own time to explore on foot. In summer, a swim stop includes the option to take a separate boat through the cave of the inland sea. Bring cash if you want that ride, as it costs extra and is not part of the tour price.

Pickup happens from select locations on Malta (not always in front of your accommodation, the driver will confirm an easier meeting point). If you're staying in Gozo, you'll be transferred back to your accommodation at the end. Bring swimwear and towels in summer, or a rain jacket in winter.
