The experience
A free afternoon or a first morning in Malta works well for this boat-based snorkeling loop. The boat departs with a welcome drink and circles Comino, stopping at three separate swimming and snorkeling spots: the Blue Lagoon, the Crystal Lagoon and Santa Marija bay, which is the largest sandy beach on the island and tends to be quieter than the others. Between stops, you pass the Comino Caves and Elephant Head, a cliff formation you can photograph from the water. The pace is built around the swimming. You get 2–3 dedicated stops depending on conditions and how the group uses the time.
Snorkeling happens at each lagoon, so bring or rent a mask and fins. The boat crew can arrange rental gear for €5 per person. The route stays close to shore and the water is shallow enough for confident swimmers of any age. Infants can travel on an adult's lap. The boat has toilet facilities and shaded seating. The guide speaks English throughout and points out the sea life and landmarks as you move between bays. If seasickness is a concern for you, this is worth considering before booking, since the boat is on the water for the full duration.
The 10:00 departure runs 3 hours. Other times may extend to 4 hours. You'll need to validate a free Blue Lagoon land pass online before arrival (required from May 2025 onward). Drinks beyond the welcome beverage can be purchased from the bar onboard. Public transport reaches the departure point, and the boat returns to the same location.
