The experience
The Ġgantija Temples are the reason most travelers book this tour, and they earn the time. Built between 3600 and 2500 BC, these megalithic structures rank among the oldest free-standing monuments on Earth: second only to Göbekli Tepe in Turkey and predating Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids by roughly a thousand years. The massive limestone blocks, some over five meters long and weighing more than 50 tons, were quarried and stacked without mortar or modern machinery. The site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980, and the name itself comes from the Maltese word for giant, a nod to the local legend that only giants could have built something this imposing.
After the temples, the tour moves to Victoria, Gozo's capital, where the medieval Citadel dominates the skyline. This fortified structure sits at the heart of the city and has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. It once served as a refuge for the island's population during raids. The market square comes alive during the day, and the surrounding streets give a genuine sense of how islanders live. From there, you head to Xlendi Bay, a sea inlet at the end of a deep ravine that was once a riverbed, now ringed by steep cliffs. The bay's small promenade stays lively with cafes and restaurants, even in high season.
The final stop is Dwejra, on Gozo's western shore, where the Inland Sea sits enclosed by high cliffs and connected to the open water by a 65-meter natural tunnel. Weather permitting, you can take an optional short boat trip through the tunnel for around €6 per person, paid on location. Lunch (a fixed menu with a glass of wine) is included at one of the stops. The entire day encompasses all travel time between the islands, transport between sites, and the time spent at each location. Your pickup window is between 8 and 9 a.m., and you'll need to confirm your meeting point with the operator a few days in advance.
