The Experience

I’ll admit, I didn’t expect to feel so small standing above Sannap Cliffs. There’s this hush up there—just wind, sea below, a few wildflowers clinging to rock. The day started earlier on Comino. I’m not much of a boat person (motion sickness is real), but the water near the Blue Lagoon is so clear it almost looks fake. We slipped into one of those caves—echoes bouncing off stone—and then had time for a quick swim. I could still smell sunscreen on my arms after. Lunch was simple: ftira bread with tomatoes and olives, eaten sitting on a low wall while someone’s radio played old Maltese songs in the background. Not fancy, but honestly perfect.

Gozo itself feels different from Malta—slower maybe? At Dwejra Bay, kids were jumping into the Inland Sea while their grandparents watched from plastic chairs. The salt pans at Xwejni looked like something from another planet; our driver let us taste a pinch of fresh salt (way better than supermarket stuff). The sun started sinking as we reached Marsalforn—families packing up towels, that gold light hitting everything just right. I still think about that last bit of sun over the water.
