The experience

The tour starts with a visit to Sri Sakthi Temple, one of Malaysia's most impressive Hindu temples, where detailed carvings and vibrant colors fill the structure. From there you head to Bukit Melawati, a historic hilltop overlooking the coast where you can walk among Silver Leaf Monkeys (a species found only in this area), and take in the views before the sun begins to set.

As evening falls, you board a boat at Pasir Penambang Jetty for a slow ride through the mangrove forest. This is when the fireflies emerge: thousands of them blink on and off across the trees in a natural light show that happens every night. The boat moves quietly through the water, giving you time to watch and photograph without rush. If you want, you can add a local seafood dinner by the riverside afterward (RM35 per person, ordered on-site) before the drive back to Kuala Lumpur.
