The Experience
The tour leaves Kuala Lumpur after breakfast and heads north toward Cameron Highlands, stopping at Lata Iskandar Waterfall and an orang asli settlement en route. Once in the Highlands, you walk through a tea plantation and tea factory (closed Mondays and public holidays), browse the local marketplace, and see the cactus garden. You overnight at Strawberry Park Resort with breakfast included the next morning.
Day two takes you early toward Penang, with stops in Ipoh and Kuala Kangsar. In Ipoh's old town, you see the Moorish-style railway station—known locally as the "Taj Mahal of Ipoh"—and walk Concubine Lane, where pre-war shophouses have been restored to their original state. In Kuala Kangsar, you drive around Bukit Chandan to view the exterior of Masjid Ubudiah, Istana Iskandariah, and Istana Kenangan (the Royal Gallery), then visit the Labu Sayong Center where potters—mostly women—handcraft distinctive shaped pots. You arrive in Georgetown and stay at St Giles Wembley Penang Hotel.
The third day is the Georgetown heritage tour. You visit the third-longest reclining Buddha figure in the world, then Kek Lok Si Temple, called the Temple of 1000 Buddhas. Fort Cornwallis gets a photo stop, and you walk through the Clan Jetties at Weld Quay, the water village where families live on stilts. "The Street of Harmony" shows churches, Chinese temples, mosques, and Hindu temples standing side by side. You tour the intricate Khoo Kong Si clan house, then take a breezy trishaw ride through the streets. The afternoon is free. On the final morning, you transfer to Penang Airport.
