Cameron Highlands Day Trip: Tea Plantations and Farms
Cameron Highlands in a day: tea, temples and strawberry picking without the drive
A guided day trip from Kuala Lumpur to Cameron Highlands with hotel pickup and return transfer, visiting tea plantations, a strawberry farm where you pick your own fruit, bee farms and Sam Poh Temple. The 3.5-hour drive each way passes rubber and palm plantations and stops at Lata Iskandar waterfall. An English-speaking driver handles the route and timing; the tour runs 10 to 12 hours total. Pickup is included within 5km of the city center; a surcharge applies for hotels further out.

The Experience
The driver picks you up from your Kuala Lumpur hotel at 7am and heads toward the highlands on a 3.5-hour scenic drive. The road itself is part of the experience—you pass rubber and palm plantations, local villages and forest before reaching the cooler air of Cameron Highlands. A short stop at Lata Iskandar waterfall, where a 25-meter cascade flows into a small pool, breaks up the journey and gives you a chance to stretch and browse the roadside stalls selling tribal handicrafts and tropical fruits.
Once in the highlands, the day splits between working farms and temples. You visit a tea plantation—likely BOH, the largest in Southeast Asia with 8,000 acres, or Bharat Tea Estate, the second-largest—where you walk through the rows and try the local brew with cakes and scones at the on-site shop. A strawberry farm lets you pick your own fruit straight from the plants, and a bee farm shows you how honey is made and the life cycle of the bees. Sam Poh Temple, built in 1972 and the fourth-largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, sits high on a hill overlooking Brinchang town and houses a large statue of Lord Buddha.
The return to Kuala Lumpur starts at 3pm or 3:30pm and takes 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic. You're back at your hotel by early evening. The whole day is handled by one driver in an air-conditioned vehicle, so you don't navigate the highland roads yourself or coordinate between stops.

What is Lata Iskandar waterfall and why is it on the route?
Lata Iskandar is a waterfall along the main road from Tapah to Cameron Highlands, with water cascading over granite slopes and a final drop of 25 meters into a small pool. It serves as a refreshing stop during the 3.5-hour drive up to the highlands, and the area around it has shops selling ethnic souvenirs, tribal handicrafts and tropical fruits.
Can I really pick strawberries myself at the farm?
Yes. The strawberry farm included on this tour gives you the chance to pick and pluck your own strawberries directly from the plants, so you can choose the bigger and sweeter ones. The farm also grows cactus, flowers and organic vegetables if you want to walk around beyond the strawberry rows.
Which tea plantation will I visit?
The driver typically takes you to BOH Tea Plantation, the largest in Southeast Asia with 8,000 acres, where you can walk through the tea rows and try the local tea with cakes and scones at the shop. If traffic is heavy or the plantation is closed that day, the driver may substitute Bharat Tea Estate or Cameron Valley Tea House instead, both of which also offer tea tastings and views of the estate.
What is Sam Poh Temple and how large is it?
Sam Poh Temple is a Buddhist temple built in 1972 and located in Brinchang, high on a hill overlooking the town. It is the fourth-largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia and houses a large statue of Lord Buddha. The hilltop location gives it good views of Brinchang and the surrounding hills.
How long is the drive from Kuala Lumpur and what time do I return?
The drive to Cameron Highlands takes 3.5 hours each way. Pickup is at 7am, and you depart the highlands at 3pm or 3:30pm for the return journey, which takes 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic. You arrive back at your hotel by early evening, making this a full 10 to 12 hour day.
What happens if my hotel is outside the 5km pickup radius?
Hotel pickup is included within 5km of the city center (KLCC). If your hotel is further out, an additional surcharge of USD 10 per person applies and is payable on the day of the activity.
