Three UNESCO sites in one day: monasteries carved into cliffs, 375 remaining cedars, and colossal Roman temples

A private full-day tour from Beirut visits three of Lebanon's most significant cultural and natural sites: Qadisha Valley, where early Christian monasteries sit in a rugged landscape; the Cedars of God forest near Bcharre, home to 375 trees cited 103 times in the Bible; and Baalbek, a Roman temple complex built over two centuries at 1,150 meters altitude. A guide leads the route, and hotel pickup and air-conditioned transport are included.

The experience

How do you fit Lebanon's most important Christian valley, its national symbol forest, and one of the Roman world's greatest sanctuaries into a single day? This tour strings them together in sequence, starting from your hotel in Beirut and moving north into the mountains. The Qadisha Valley opens first: a settlement site of the earliest Christian monasteries, with caves and cultivated terraces built into an extraordinarily rugged landscape. The route then climbs to Bcharre, a town of 37 churches and the birthplace of poet and artist Khalil Gibran, whose museum sits there now.

The Cedars of God forest is the working heart of the day. Only 375 trees remain of what were once vast ancient forests, and they are the last place on earth where this species still grows naturally. The cedar appears 103 times in the Bible and is the symbol on the Lebanese flag. In antiquity it was one of the most prized construction materials for religious buildings across the Mediterranean. You walk among them at altitude, in a landscape that has held them for millennia.

Baalbek comes last, at 1,150 meters in the Bekaa plain. The temple complex is a model of Imperial Roman architecture, built over more than two centuries and dedicated to the Romanized Triad of Heliopolis: Jupiter, Venus and Bacchus. The site includes the Stone of the Pregnant Woman, a worked Roman monolith that ranks among the largest ever quarried, intended for the temples but never placed. Your guide leads the visit through the ruins. The air-conditioned vehicle waits for the return to Beirut.
