The experience

Your driver and guide pick you up at your hotel and head inland toward the Bekaa Valley, climbing toward Mount Lebanon. The route takes you first to Baalbek, where the Roman temples of Jupiter, Bacchus and Venus stand among the largest and best-preserved ruins of the ancient world. Your guide walks you through the site. How long you spend there is flexible, and lunch nearby is optional if you want to break before moving on.

From Baalbek, the tour continues east to Anjar, the only Umayyad ruins in Lebanon. This 8th-century Islamic city offers a different layer of the country's history: a shift from Roman grandeur to early Islamic urban planning. The site is compact enough to cover thoroughly in a single visit without rushing.

The day closes at Chateau Ksara, Lebanon's oldest winery, where you taste wines in the estate's natural underground caves. The caves themselves are a draw, vast cellars carved into the limestone, and the tasting is included. You return to your hotel with the same driver and guide who started the morning.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, French and Arabic.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (1 to 7 years).

What are the Roman temples at Baalbek actually like when you get there?

Baalbek holds three main temples: Jupiter, Bacchus and Venus. The Jupiter temple is one of the largest religious structures ever built in the Roman world, with columns that still stand after nearly two thousand years. Bacchus is the best preserved of the three. Both are open-air ruins on a single archaeological site, so you move between them on foot.

How much time do you spend at each stop on this tour?

The tour runs six to eight hours total from hotel to hotel. Baalbek and Anjar each take up a substantial portion of the day, though the exact time at each depends on your pace and interests. Lunch at Baalbek is optional, so you can shorten that stop if you prefer. Wine tasting at Chateau Ksara typically takes an hour.

Is this tour private, or will I be sharing it with other travelers?

This is a private tour, so your driver and guide work only for your group. You set the rhythm at each site without waiting for other visitors to move on.

Does the tour include lunch and wine?

Wine tasting at Chateau Ksara is included. Lunch at Baalbek is optional and not included in the tour price. You arrange and pay for it separately if you want to eat there. Alcoholic beverages beyond the winery tasting are not included.
