The experience
The day starts with a stop at the Rift Valley escarpment viewpoint before heading to Lake Naivasha for a one-hour guided boat cruise. A local guide narrates the ecology as you watch hippos surface in family pods near the shore and scan the water for over 400 bird species the lake is known for. The boat ride is the same on both options. What changes is what comes next.
If you choose the lake and Crescent Island option, the day ends after the boat safari. If you add Hell's Gate, you move into the park itself: a geothermal quarter of the Great Rift Valley wedged between volcanoes, where the ground vents steam and the cliffs rise stark above scrub-covered slopes. You can bike through the gorges on a rental (paid in cash on the day), walk the same routes, or take a game drive instead, depending on the weather and your preference. Zebras, giraffes, warthogs, gazelles, and baboons move through the park. A guided hike through the gorges is optional and depends on conditions.
Transport between all sites is by air-conditioned minivan with a professional English-speaking guide. The full day runs nine hours from hotel pickup in Nairobi or Naivasha to drop-off, with water provided throughout. Bike rental, Hell's Gate park entry, and the boat safari are not included in the tour price and are paid separately on the day.

Is this one for you?Choose the Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island option if a boat safari and birdwatching are your priority and you want a gentler pace. Add Hell's Gate if you're comfortable biking or walking and want to move through geothermal gorges and see larger wildlife. The park's terrain and optional hike demand at least moderate fitness, and biking or walking are the ways to experience the gorges themselves.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and French.
What's the difference between the two options I can choose at checkout?
The Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island option includes the boat safari and ends there. The Lake Naivasha and Hell's Gate option adds the national park, where you can bike, walk, or drive through geothermal gorges and see wildlife. Both the bike rental and park entry are paid separately on the day.
Can I bike through Hell's Gate, or do I have to take a game drive?
Biking through the gorges is optional and available by rental (paid in cash at the park). Walking the same routes is also an option, as is a game drive if you prefer not to be on foot or bike. Your guide can help you choose based on the day's conditions.
What animals will I see at Hell's Gate and on the lake?
Hell's Gate is home to zebras, giraffes, warthogs, gazelles, buffalo, baboons, and monkeys. Lake Naivasha is known for hippos that surface close to the shore and over 400 bird species. The boat guide will point out what's visible on the day you visit.
Does the tour include hotel pickup in Nairobi?
Yes, hotel pickup and drop-off are included for hotels in Nairobi and Naivasha cities. The minivan collects you in the morning and returns you at the end of the nine-hour day.
What do I need to pay for separately on the day?
Hell's Gate National Park entry, bike rental (if you choose to bike), and the boat safari are paid separately in cash or on-site. Bottled water and transport between all sites are included.
Is this tour suitable if I have asthma or breathing concerns?
Hell's Gate's gorges are not recommended for travelers with asthmatic conditions due to the terrain and air quality in that section. If you choose the Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island option only, this concern does not apply to the boat safari or viewpoint stops.
