The experience

Hell's Gate National Park sits about 30 minutes from Naivasha. You arrive, leave the vehicle and cycle through the park for around 90 minutes, moving at your own pace through the landscape. Then you dismount and hike into the gorge itself for an hour, walking on foot through the rock formations the park is built around. After the hike, a brief game drive takes you back toward the park exit, followed by a 30-minute lunch break before the next part of the day begins.

The boat safari starts with a 45-minute cruise across Lake Naivasha, which ends at Crescent Island. Once you step off the boat, you walk the island for about two hours alongside the animals that live there: giraffes, zebras, antelopes and birds move through the same space you do. A 15-minute boat ride from a different point on the island returns you to the mainland, and the waiting vehicle drives you back to where you started.
