The experience
How do you see Mt. Kilimanjaro and hundreds of elephants without renting a car or hiring a private guide? This tour handles the drive from Nairobi, less than five hours each way, and puts you in a 4x4 with a pop-up rooftop for unobstructed wildlife viewing. You leave at 7:00 am, arrive with a short game drive, then settle into a tented camp for lunch. The afternoon brings another drive before dinner and overnight stay.
Day two starts before breakfast with a game drive hunting predators and grazers until around 10:00 am. Amboseli's name comes from a Maasai word meaning "salty dust," and the park contains five distinct habitats (the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, wetlands with sulfur springs, savannah and woodlands) each one a different ecosystem. Elephants congregate in the swamp areas where water persists, and the open terrain makes them visible from a distance. After the morning drive you check out and head back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening between 3:00 and 4:00 pm for drop-off at your hotel or airport.
The tour includes drinking water during drives, all entry fees, accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp. A live guide in English accompanies both game drives and handles the logistics of the route.
