The experience
The tour starts with a 7:00 am pickup from your Nairobi hotel and a drive south along the Mombasa road. You arrive at Amboseli in time for lunch, then head out on an evening game drive to spot the park's resident elephants, wildebeest, zebras, giraffes and hippos, and if luck holds, lions, cheetahs or hyenas. Mount Kilimanjaro dominates the landscape throughout, its snow-capped peak visible across the open plains.
On the second day, you'll rise for a leisurely breakfast, then embark on an en-route game drive back toward Nairobi, watching for wildlife as you leave the park. You arrive in Nairobi in time for lunch and are dropped at your hotel or airport. Both days use a private safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, which lets you stand and photograph without leaving the car. Your guide is a professional who knows where to find the park's residents and can explain what you're seeing.
Bottled drinking water is provided throughout, and you'll receive a company t-shirt as a keepsake. The park is home to large elephant herds year-round, though concentrations are highest in the dry season. Over 370 bird species live here, so birdwatchers often spot species they've never seen before.
