The experience
Three hours starts at the Cup Noodles Museum, where you learn how instant ramen was invented by Momofuku Ando and revolutionized food culture worldwide. The workshop lets you design and make your own original Cup Noodles bowl (choosing the broth, noodles and toppings), so you leave with something you built. The museum also displays the history of instant ramen and the manufacturing process, and both adults and children can follow along without difficulty.
After the museum, your guide takes you into Yokohama Chinatown, a neighborhood that formed in 1859 when Chinese merchants arrived after the port opened. Today the area holds more than 600 stores crammed into a maze of narrow alleys. You walk through on your own pace, stopping at shops that interest you (dim sum restaurants, snack vendors, souvenir stalls), while your guide explains the history and culture of the district. What you eat and buy is your choice and your cost.
The guide meets you at the entrance area of the Cup Noodles Museum holding a signboard marked [gotcha]. Public transportation options are nearby if you need them. Note that all the soups at the museum contain pork.
