The experience
Instant ramen was born in Japan, and the Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama exists to tell that story. Momofuku Ando, founder of Nissin Foods, invented instant ramen and changed global food culture, and the museum documents both his achievement and the manufacturing process itself. You'll tour the facility with your guide, learning how the product went from a Japanese innovation to something loved around the world, and you'll see the production methods up close as you move through the exhibits.
The hands-on part comes in the workshop, where you design and make your own original Cup Noodles. Your guide walks you through the process, and you get to take what you've made with you. The museum also has a casual food section serving noodle dishes and desserts from different countries, so you can taste how ramen culture varies by region. Your guide will talk with you about food traditions and noodle dishes from your own country as part of the experience.
Your guide will be waiting for you at the museum entrance with a signboard marked gotcha, so there's no confusion about where to meet. The whole visit runs 90 minutes. Note that all the soups served contain pork, so if you're vegetarian or vegan, you won't be able to eat what's offered in the workshop or the food hall.

Is this one for you? This class works for anyone curious about how instant ramen came to be and who wants to try making their own version. The 90-minute format fits easily into a day trip from Tokyo, and the hands-on workshop gives you something tangible to take away, but note that all soups contain pork, so vegetarian and vegan diets won't work with the food component.
