Yokohama Private Tour: Local Guide Personalized Highlights
A local designs your Yokohama route around what you actually want to see.
A private walking tour of Yokohama with a local host who customizes the itinerary to your interests, pace and travel style. You complete an online questionnaire after booking so the host can match your preferences (whether food, history, hidden corners or modern culture), and plan a route that blends well-known landmarks like Yamashita Park and Chinatown with neighborhoods only locals know. The host picks you up on foot at your accommodation if it's central, and you choose your duration when you book: 2, 3, 4 or 5 hours.

The experience
You arrive in Yokohama with a free afternoon or a morning to spend, and you want to see the city the way someone who lives there would show it. A standard tour hits the same stops everyone photographs. This one starts with you. After you book, you answer a short questionnaire about what draws you (food culture, maritime history, contemporary design, quiet streets, specific neighborhoods), and the host uses that to build a route no two travelers will follow the same way. The host reaches out directly before the day to talk through what you're after and where you want to begin.
The walk itself moves at your pace through a mix of known and overlooked places. Yamashita Park opens onto the harbor with views of the bay and passing ships. Yokohama Chinatown, one of the world's largest, fills blocks with colorful gates, traditional storefronts and eateries. Motomachi Shopping Street shows the city's international side through local boutiques and long-standing shops. Minato Mirai displays Yokohama's modern waterfront: contemporary architecture and public spaces that still hold the port city's identity. The Noge District, narrow streets and small bars tucked together, is where everyday Yokohama lives. Your host chooses which of these fit your interests and what else to add based on what you said in the questionnaire.
This is a walking experience, so you move on foot between neighborhoods. Public transportation or local taxis can connect distant sites if needed. Those costs come out of pocket and you settle them with your host after booking. You pick your duration when you reserve (2, 3, 4 or 5 hours), and the host adjusts the route to fit. Pickup on foot at a central accommodation is included. Hotel drop-off is not. The guide speaks English or Japanese, and you communicate directly with them to finalize the plan.

Is this one for you?Choose the duration that fits your schedule: a 2-hour introduction hits the main waterfront and one neighborhood, while 4 or 5 hours lets you move slowly through multiple districts and linger where something catches your interest. The questionnaire means the host already knows what you want to see before you meet, so the day starts focused instead of with a generic overview.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Japanese.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (under 13).
I'm visiting Yokohama for the first time and have an afternoon free, how does the host know what to show me?
After you book, you fill out a short online questionnaire about your interests (whether you want food experiences, history, hidden neighborhoods, modern culture or specific areas), and the host uses your answers to design a personalized route. The host also reaches out directly to discuss what you're hoping to see and refine the plan before you meet.
What neighborhoods and landmarks might we visit during the tour?
Possible stops include Yamashita Park, a waterfront promenade overlooking the harbor; Yokohama Chinatown, one of the world's largest with colorful gates and traditional architecture; Motomachi Shopping Street, known for local boutiques and international influences; Minato Mirai, a modern waterfront district with contemporary architecture; and the Noge District, a lively neighborhood of narrow streets and local eateries. Your host chooses which fit your interests and may include other areas based on what you said in the questionnaire.
Can I pick how long the tour lasts?
Yes. You choose your duration when you book: 2, 3, 4 or 5 hours. The host adjusts the route and how deeply you explore each neighborhood to fit the time you've selected.
Is transportation between neighborhoods included, or do I walk the whole time?
This is primarily a walking experience through Yokohama's neighborhoods. If distant sites are part of your itinerary, public transportation or local taxis can connect them. Those costs are separate and you arrange them with your host after booking.
What's included in the tour price, and what costs extra?
The tour includes the host's time, direct communication to plan your itinerary, and pickup on foot at a central accommodation. Food, drinks, attraction tickets and any public transportation between sites are not included and come out of pocket. Gratuities are optional.
