The experience
Kabira Bay is the centerpiece: one of Japan's Top 100 Scenic Spots, famous for emerald-green waters and white sand where a glass-bottom boat lets you watch coral reefs and tropical fish without entering the water (swimming is off-limits due to currents). The bay's color shifts with the time of day and weather, so each visit is different. Your guide, who speaks English or Japanese, will time this stop and every other one around what matters to you. The itinerary is never locked in. A professional photographer travels with you the whole day, capturing candid moments and posed portraits at the island's best viewpoints, then hands over beautifully edited digital files when you finish.
Yaima Village sits on a scenic hill overlooking Nagura Bay and holds traditional red-tile houses from 80 to 110 years ago, now registered cultural properties. Live Okinawan music and dance play at the Ie-Asibi stage, and you can try on Ryukyuan costumes, paint Shisa guardian lions, or make Sata Andagi (Okinawan donuts) with your hands. Around 60 squirrel monkeys live on the grounds, and a boardwalk winds through a Ramsar-listed mangrove wetland where you can watch for the protected Crested Serpent Eagle. Entry is included. The on-site Amparu Restaurant serves local dishes like Yaeyama soba if you want to eat there.
The rest of the day opens up. Yonehara Beach on the east coast has white sand and clear water good for snorkeling. Tamatorizaki Observatory on the northeast coast offers panoramic views of turquoise water and coral reefs, with tropical flowers lining the path. Yonekoyaki Pottery Studio is an open-air garden filled with giant, vibrant Shisa statues and ceramic sculptures: a one-of-a-kind photo stop. Nobare Tourist Farm sits on a hilltop with seasonal tropical fruit, a café serving fresh juices, and sweeping ocean views. Hirakubo Lighthouse stands at the northernmost tip with views of neighboring Iriomote Island on clear days, though reaching it takes time and may mean fewer other stops. Euglena Mall, the island's only covered shopping street, has souvenir shops and local food. Your guide shapes the day around what you want to see and how long you want to linger.
Private transportation is included, and pickup and drop-off happen at your hotel. You'll receive a small souvenir and bottled water throughout the day. The tour runs between five and eight hours depending on which option you choose and where your interests lead.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Japanese.
What can I see underwater at Kabira Bay if I can't swim there?
Kabira Bay's glass-bottom boat tour lets you watch coral reefs and colorful tropical fish from the surface. The boat has a viewing chamber below the waterline, so you see the underwater world without entering the water: important because strong currents make swimming unsafe.
Can I customize the stops on this tour, or is the itinerary fixed?
The itinerary is completely flexible and customized to you. Your guide works with your interests and timing. You might spend more time at one beach, skip a stop entirely, or add a different one. The only fixed inclusions are Kabira Bay and Yaima Village entry.
What does the professional photographer do during the tour?
A professional photographer travels with you the entire day, discretely capturing candid moments (laughs, interactions, natural scenes), and taking posed group portraits at scenic viewpoints. You receive beautifully edited digital photo files to keep, so you have high-quality images without the distraction of a formal photo session.
Is Yaima Village just a museum, or can I actually do things there?
Yaima Village is a working cultural space where you can join hands-on activities: try on traditional Ryukyuan costumes, paint Shisa guardian lion statues, or make Sata Andagi (Okinawan donuts). Live Okinawan music and dance perform at the Ie-Asibi stage, and you can walk a boardwalk through a mangrove wetland and see around 60 squirrel monkeys on the grounds.
What's included in the tour price, and what do I need to pay for separately?
Included are private transportation, Kabira Bay glass-bottom boat entry, Yaima Village admission, hotel pickup and drop-off, bottled water, a small souvenir, and all the professional photography with edited digital files. Meals are not included, though the Amparu Restaurant at Yaima Village serves local dishes if you want to eat there.
