The experience
Kabira Bay anchors the morning, famous for its turquoise water and the small green islands dotting the bay. From there the tour moves to one of Ishigaki's white-sand beaches where you can relax in clear water and see coral reefs close to shore. The guide shares stories about the island's history and culture as you travel in an air-conditioned vehicle, and original Ishigaki videos play along the way.
Oganzaki, a coastal viewpoint on the western side, brings dramatic cliffs and wide ocean views, with a white lighthouse marking the spot. The sea breeze is strong here and the panoramic sight stretches across the water. A cultural village follows, where you can walk through traditional Yaeyama architecture, learn about how people lived on the southern islands before modern development, and see mangrove nature and squirrel monkeys. A subtropical nature viewpoint and a photo stop at giant colorful Shisa statues round out the stops.
Bottled water, coffee, tea and juices come throughout the day, along with a towel, sunscreen and insect repellent. A traditional Okinawan soba lunch and a selection of Japanese snacks are included. The guide handles all the driving and planning. You show up at your hotel at the start time and return there at the end.
