The experience

Oshino Hakkai sits eight clear ponds fed by Mount Fuji's snowmelt, and that water is what makes the soba here distinct. You'll work through the noodle-making process (mixing, kneading, rolling and cutting) using the same spring water that locals have relied on for generations. The class is built for all skill levels, so beginners and children move through it at the same pace as anyone else. English-speaking staff guide you through each step, and the indoor setting means the class runs regardless of weather.

The experience takes about two hours and happens at Fujiya, a short walk from Kawaguchiko Station near Lake Kawaguchi and the Fuji Panorama Ropeway. You'll wear an apron and vinyl gloves provided free, and the class includes all materials and taxes. Parking is free. At the end, you taste what you've made: soba prepared with the water you just worked with, in the place where that water originates.

What’s included

  • Aprons and vinyl gloves.
  • all materials and instruction.
  • taxes and service fees.
  • free parking.
