Tablet software walks you through each fold, from a flat square to finished animals and flowers.

Origami Fun for Families and Beginners is a 45-minute paper-folding class in Asakusa where you choose from 50 colors of origami paper and fold models ranging from beginner to intermediate difficulty, guided by tablet software and live instructors. Children are welcome from age 5. You take home everything you fold.

The Experience

You start with a square of origami paper and a tablet that shows you each step. The software walks you through animals, flowers, and vehicles at your own pace: fold a simple crane, then move to something more complex if you want. If you get stuck, an origami instructor is there to help. The studio is filled with finished models and displays made by artists based in Japan and the US, so you can see what's possible before you start and get ideas for what to try next.

The 50 colors of paper mean you're not limited to traditional white or gold. You pick the shades that appeal to you and fold as many models as you can fit into the session. Families work side by side, each person folding at their own speed. You're welcome to take photos of your work and the studio's displays throughout. If you want to go deeper into origami, rare books are available to purchase.

Everything you fold comes home with you. The studio is in Asakusa's historic district, and public transportation stops are nearby. Wear socks or bring a pair, as you'll remove your shoes inside.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English and Japanese.

Can children come?

12 to 17 years; 5 to 11 years. Under 5: no ticket type, they can't be added to a booking.

Can I fold more than one model in 45 minutes?

Yes. The tablet software lets you move through models at your own pace, so beginners often complete two or three simple designs in a session, while others try one more complex fold. You choose what to make.

What if I've never folded origami before?

The class is designed for beginners. The tablet guides you step by step, and an origami instructor is present to answer questions and help if you get stuck on a fold.

Can my five-year-old do this?

Children are welcome from age 5. Younger folders may need more help from an instructor or a parent, but the models range from very simple to intermediate, so there's something for each age and skill level.

Do I get to keep what I fold?

Yes. You take home all the origami models you make during the session.
