The experience

Nada has been Japan's sake heartland for centuries, and the five districts here, known as "Nadagogo", produce some of the world's most respected brands. This tour lets you build your own itinerary from the major breweries: Hakutsuru and Kikumasamune occupy old factory buildings that now function as museums, walking you through the sake-making process and the equipment that shaped the craft. Sawanotsuru, Sakuramasamune and others operate similarly, preserving the authentic atmosphere of their original spaces. Hamafukutsuru, founded in 1996, shows a newer approach with its modern facility. Hakutaka Rokusuien and Nihonsakari's head office add cultural context: one as a dedicated sake information center opened in 2001, the other as a brick building with a tasting corner and Japanese restaurant.

Your licensed local guide speaks English and knows the breweries and their stories firsthand. Over six hours, you'll walk between your chosen sites, meet people who work in the breweries, and hear how the region built its reputation. The guide handles the route and the pacing. You decide which three or four stops matter most to you before the tour starts. This is a walking tour on foot, so wear comfortable shoes. The area is wheelchair accessible, and public transportation runs nearby if you need it.

Entrance fees to the breweries and lunch are not included in the tour price, so you can choose where and what to eat. The guide's entry to the sites you select is covered. You'll meet your guide on foot in a designated area of Kobe or Osaka, there's no vehicle pickup, and the tour works best if you're at least 20 years old, Japan's legal drinking age.

Is this one for you?You build the itinerary by picking which breweries matter to you (Hakutsuru, Kikumasamune, Sawanotsuru, Sakuramasamune or others), so the tour fits the sites you actually want to see rather than a fixed route everyone follows. The guide's knowledge of each brewery and its people is what makes the difference between a self-guided walk and understanding the stories behind the sake.
