Train like a ninja and walk away knowing the techniques

A one-hour ninja training class in Kyoto where you learn hands-on techniques from a Japanese master who teaches in English. The lesson covers ninja meditation, breathing, walking, sword, kunai, shuriken and blowgun training, plus a demonstration of the ninja trick house. Ninja clothes are provided for the session.

The Experience

What does a ninja actually do? This one-hour class answers the question by putting you through the basics yourself. You start with ninja meditation called Kuji-In and breathing exercises that teach you how ninjas controlled their bodies, then move into the walking techniques used in Japanese martial arts. The master demonstrates how ninjas moved and why, and you practice the form yourself.

The hands-on training covers the weapons and tools ninjas actually used. You'll train with a ninja sword, learn to throw kunai (a short dagger), practice with shuriken (throwing stars), and fire a blowgun. Between each weapon the master shows you the technique, then you try it. There's also a walk-through of a ninja trick house where you see how ninjas used traps and hidden passages to escape. The whole session happens in English with a Japanese sensei who has trained in the ninja arts.

You wear a ninja costume during the lesson, which is included in the price. The class is entry-level, so no prior experience is needed. Children are welcome from age 5. The dojo is accessible by public transportation if you're getting there on your own.
