The experience
The lesson starts with instruction on how the kite works and the safety system, then moves to the water where you'll fly the kite and feel the wind power under your control. Kitesurfing requires less prior experience than most board sports. The operators emphasize that anyone can pick it up. You'll work with two IKO international kitesurfing certified instructors who follow the International Kite Organization's lesson structure, so the skills you learn transfer to any kitesurf spot in the world and come with online certification.
Ishigaki's setting is the draw: the island has the blue ocean and mountain views the operators describe as unforgettable. The lesson happens in that water, not in a sheltered bay or training pool. After you're done on the board, you'll break for lunch at a local Japanese restaurant with a few menu options to choose from. You pick what appeals to you.
The package includes all the gear: kitesurfing equipment, wetsuit, life jacket and helmet. An English-speaking guide leads the session. Children as young as 8 can join, and the operators note that age and strength don't limit who can learn.

Is this one for you?The lesson is water-based and hands-on from the start, so you'll be in the ocean learning to control the kite rather than watching a demonstration. If you want to actually fly a kite and feel the wind, not just observe, this is the format that delivers it.
