Practice throwing techniques on a 110-mat floor with a medical-licensed Judo master

A 90-minute private class at Wakayama's largest dojo where you learn authentic Judo throwing techniques and samurai posture from a 3rd-generation master who holds a national medical license. The session blends martial arts heritage with anatomical science: you receive personalized body alignment advice, practice safe throwing on professional training dummies, and tour the historic facility. Judo uniform, water and instruction are included. Private transportation can be arranged at checkout.

The experience

The dojo spans 110 mats, the largest private facility in Japan, and your session starts with a 15-minute heritage tour of the space and the 1st-floor large roof ring, where you'll learn about three generations of the master's family lineage. This isn't a crowded group class. You're working one-on-one with someone trained in both martial arts and human anatomy, which shapes how the instruction unfolds.

The core of the session splits into two parts. For 30 minutes you focus on posture and alignment: the master teaches you the "Samurai Posture" (a stance rooted in Japanese physical culture), and shows you how it strengthens your core and improves your body mechanics. This is personalized to your frame and movement patterns, not a generic demonstration. Then you spend 30 minutes on Judo itself, learning "Nage-waza" (throwing techniques) using professional training dummies so you can practice the dynamic movements without risk. You'll feel the power and precision of the technique in a way that's safe and repeatable. The session closes with final health advice from the master and a photo in the historic space to mark what you've learned.

Everything you need is provided: a Judo gi (uniform) fitted for the session, bottled water, and the full attention of your instructor. Public transportation reaches the dojo, or you can book private pickup at checkout to simplify the logistics.

Is this one for you?Book this class if you're training alone or with one travel companion and want personalized attention from an expert who understands both martial arts technique and how your body works. The private format means the master adjusts everything (pace, focus, physical cues) to your needs rather than fitting you into a group rhythm.

Top questions

What exactly is the Samurai Posture and how does it help my body?

The Samurai Posture is a stance rooted in Japanese martial arts tradition that improves physical alignment and core strength. Your instructor, who holds a medical license, teaches it as a personalized session based on anatomical expertise: he'll assess your body and show you how the posture applies to your own frame and movement patterns.

Will I actually throw someone, or is it all on dummies?

You practice throwing techniques on professional training dummies, not on a partner. This lets you learn the full dynamic movement and power of authentic Judo throws safely, without any risk of injury, and you can repeat the techniques as many times as you need to feel the mechanics.

How large is the dojo and what will I see during the tour?

The dojo spans 110 mats: the largest private facility in Japan. During your 15-minute heritage tour, you'll explore the main training floor and the 1st-floor large roof ring while learning about the master's three-generation family history in Judo.

What should I wear and do I need to bring anything?

Wear comfortable clothes you can change out of. A Judo gi (uniform) is provided and fitted for your session, along with bottled water. Bring nothing else. All training equipment is supplied.

Is this class suitable for someone with no Judo experience?

Yes. The class is designed as a private introduction to authentic Judo and samurai posture, and your instructor tailors the session to your level. You should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The session is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or if you are pregnant.
