The experience

The tour starts at your hotel or cruise port and moves through Hiroshima's key sites on public transport. Your guide explains the history before and after World War II as you walk through Peace Memorial Park, learning what each monument and statue conveys. The atomic dome stands as the centerpiece, and you'll also see Hiroshima Castle, which has stood for 400 years. Entry to the Peace Memorial Museum is included. You can walk through with your guide's narration or spend time there on your own, seeing the exhibitions at your own pace.

Lunch is Okonomiyaki, Hiroshima's signature dish, eaten at a local spot (you pay for it separately). After lunch, the tour moves to Shukkeien Garden, a traditional Japanese landscape where you can experience the changing seasons through the garden's design and plantings. The whole day runs six hours, moving by public transportation: taxis are available if you prefer, but those fares are separate.
