The experience

Your guide meets you at your hotel or arranges pickup from the cruise port and travels with you by public transport throughout the day. In Hiroshima, you walk through Peace Memorial Park with explanations of each monument and statue, then visit the Peace Memorial Museum (entry is included), where you can explore the exhibitions at your own pace or with the guide. You'll also see the A-Bomb Dome and the remaining rubble around it, learning Hiroshima's history before and after World War II.

At lunchtime, you eat okonomiyaki, Hiroshima's local specialty, a savory pancake layered with cabbage and other toppings. In the afternoon, you take a tram through the city to see rivers and mountains, then board a ferry to Miyajima, a UNESCO World Heritage island. There you visit the floating torii gate at Itsukushima Shrine, walk through the shrine grounds, and stop at Daishoin Temple, one of the most important temples of Shingon Buddhism. Your guide explains the island's atmosphere and significance as you move through it.

The day ends with a ferry and rail ride back to Hiroshima station, with time to browse souvenir shops if you wish. Public transport is the main means of travel. Taxis can be arranged at extra cost. The tour suits all fitness levels and welcomes children from age 4.

Is this one for you?Eight hours is long enough to walk both Hiroshima's memorial sites and Miyajima's shrines without rushing, but it leaves little room for other activities that day. The flexible itinerary means your guide can spend more time at sites that matter most to you and less at others, so you shape how the day unfolds within that frame.

What exactly is the A-Bomb Dome in Hiroshima?

The A-Bomb Dome is the skeletal remains of the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, one of the few structures that survived the atomic bombing in 1945. You'll see it and the rubble around it during your walk through Peace Memorial Park, with your guide explaining its significance to Hiroshima's history.

Can I visit the Peace Memorial Museum, or is it just a walk past the building?

What is the floating torii gate at Miyajima, and when can I see it?

The floating torii gate is the iconic shrine gate of Itsukushima Shrine, which appears to float on the water at high tide. Whether it looks fully submerged or stands in shallow water depends on the tide at the time of your visit. Your guide will explain what you're seeing and the shrine's cultural importance.

Is lunch included in the price?
