The experience
You meet your private guide and driver at Hiroshima port at 8am, holding a sign with your name. The tour runs from the cruise terminal through the morning and early afternoon, ending with a drop-off back at the port by 5pm: timed so you're back before the ship departs. The route covers two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Peace Memorial Park, where the A-bomb Dome still stands as one of the few structures that survived the 1945 bombing, and Miyajima Island, reached by ferry from the mainland.
At the Peace Memorial Park, your guide walks you through the grounds and into the Peace Memorial Museum, which holds belongings left by victims, photographs and materials that document what happened. The park itself is quiet and open. You'll see the Peace Flame, which burns until the world is free of nuclear weapons, and the Children's Peace Monument. This is not a rushed stop: your guide sets the pace and answers questions as you move through. By 1pm you transfer to the ferry terminal for the crossing to Miyajima.
Miyajima Island is known for the floating torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, a vermillion arch that appears to hover on the water at high tide. You explore the shrine grounds, walk the island's streets, and encounter the free-roaming deer that live there. The island has temples, forests and views of the Seto Inland Sea. Your guide knows which spots work best for photography and can suggest local food if you want to eat on the island. By 4pm you board the ferry back to Hiroshima and return to the port.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What happens if I'm a cruise passenger and my ship leaves at 5pm?
The tour is timed to return you to Hiroshima port by 5pm, so you have a buffer before departure. Your guide and driver know the cruise schedule and build the day around it. If your ship leaves earlier, tell the operator when you book and the itinerary can be shortened.
Do I have to visit the Peace Memorial Museum, or can I skip it?
The itinerary is flexible and can be adjusted to your preferences. If you want to spend more time on Miyajima or skip the museum, your guide can rework the day to fit what you want to see.
Is the ferry to Miyajima included in the price?
Yes. Ferry tickets, private transportation, and all entrance fees to the attractions in the itinerary are included. You don't pay separately at any stop.
What is the floating torii gate and why is it famous?
The torii gate is the entrance arch to Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island. It appears to float on the water at high tide and is one of Japan's most photographed landmarks. The shrine itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site built on the island centuries ago.
How many people can fit in the private vehicle?
The tour is available for groups of 2, 5, 8, 12 or 17 passengers. You choose the vehicle size when you book, and the price is per vehicle, not per person. Your group travels together in one private van or coach.
