The experience
You have one afternoon or a full day in Kobe and want to see the city without piecing together separate tickets and transit. This tour strings together the places locals know and tourists search for (Kobe Tower, Ikuta Shrine, the herb gardens, Kitano's Western-style houses, sake producers, and the night harbor) into a single eight-hour route. An English-speaking guide handles the navigation and the stories. You walk at a relaxed pace and stop where the day takes you.
The route climbs first: you'll take the ropeway up Nunobiki to a herb garden where roughly 75,000 plants of 200 species grow year-round, then descend and walk through Kitano Ijinkan, a neighborhood of Western, modern and traditional Japanese houses. From there you'll reach Ikuta Shrine, the oldest in the prefecture, where you can try water fortune telling in the forest. Lunch happens in Kobe Chinatown Nankinmachi, where you can sit in a restaurant or graze street food. If you finish early, Motomachi Shopping Street is steps away. The tour ends at Harbourland as the lights come on over the port, giving you time to breathe after hours of walking.
Train tickets for the route and entry to the herb garden and ropeway are included. You'll also get one paid sake tasting at a producer. Lunch is your own choice and cost. The guide speaks English throughout, so you're not reading signs or guessing at directions.
