The experience

You arrive at a traditional Okinawan house in the bohemian quarter near Blue Cave, where you'll spend two hours building a fragrance from scratch. The workshop stocks more than 150 aromatic materials, including extracts made on-site from local plants, so the scents you're choosing from are tied to the island itself. You work through the blending process with a guide who speaks English, Japanese or Dutch, and by the end you have a finished perfume in a bottle you can use as a fragrance, car scent or room spray. Something that will remind you of this specific place every time you use it.

The location sits within walking distance of pottery studios, herbalists, local restaurants and the famous cane juice stands that draw visitors to the area. The workshop provides an Original Guide Map of the neighbourhood so you can explore on your own before or after the class. This matters on days when the weather doesn't cooperate: the workshop offers a full, hands-on activity indoors when outdoor plans fall through, and the two-hour window fits easily into a morning or afternoon without eating up your whole day.

Everything you need is included: the aromatic materials, the bottle to take home, a portable spray bottle for travel, and tea or coffee while you work. Children from age 10 can participate, and the class suits all fitness levels. Service animals are welcome.
