The experience
The village is home to local Rastafarians who meet you upon arrival and guide you through their community. You cross a small stream to enter (wear sandals or water shoes that dry quickly), and then move through the space learning about the movement's resilience and the culture that has kept it alive despite heavy criticism and brutality in its early decades. The guides share stories and context as you move through the village, grounding everything in lived experience rather than a curated narrative.
About 30 minutes of the visit is devoted to authentic Congo drumming and chanting, a core part of Rastafarian spiritual practice. Fresh fruits and fresh fruit juices are available throughout. Toward the end, your guide takes you to see the facial products and souvenirs produced right there in the village (all made by the community members you've met), and you're welcome to purchase and show your appreciation directly.
The village also has a meditative labyrinth where you can walk at your own pace and engage in private contemplation. The whole experience runs six hours door-to-door, with hotel pickup and dropoff in an air-conditioned vehicle included. The tour requires a minimum of two people. The village does not host solo travelers.
