Step-by-step itinerary
Blue Hole and Bamboo Rafting Experience
- Visit Blue Hole limestone pools
- Swim, cliff-jump, and explore cave
- Enjoy guided bamboo rafting tour
The Experience
You get picked up from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle and driven through Ocho Rios, passing through local neighborhoods on the way to Blue Hole. The guide narrates the route, giving you a sense of the area before you arrive at the limestone pools. Once there, you're free to swim in the series of natural pools, jump off the rocks into the water, swing from ropes, or explore the cave if you want to. The pools are known for their blue color and are surrounded by rainforest, so there's plenty of shade and the water stays cool.
After Blue Hole, you move to the bamboo rafting section. You'll float down the river on a bamboo raft, drifting through lush rainforest that opens toward the ocean. This part of the tour is tranquil—no paddling required, just the raft carrying you downstream. The guide steers and narrates. Along the way, you can request a limestone massage from the rafters for an additional cost if you want one.
The tour includes a shopping stop where you get complimentary bottled water and rum punch (available to travelers 18 and older). Towels and water shoes are required for the activity; you can bring your own or purchase them. The whole experience runs between three and four hours, so it fits into an afternoon without eating your whole day.
