The experience

The palace itself is the story: you move through rooms furnished and arranged to show how a royal household functioned, and your guide explains the architecture and the family's role in Italian unification.

The Royal Armoury comes next, displayed in the Galleria Beaumont. It holds weapons, Renaissance armours and Oriental pieces collected over centuries. From there, the tour ends at the Cappella della Sindone: the Holy Shroud Chapel. What makes this connection unusual is the architecture: Guarini designed the chapel to sit one floor above the palace apartments, elevated to match the height of the Duomo's presbytery, so you walk directly from the Royal Apartments into the chapel without leaving the building. The Shroud itself is sealed in a box for preservation, but you see the chapel where it is held and the Duomo beyond it.
