The Royal Church of San Lorenzo, designed by Guarino Guarini, was the first place in Turin to hold the Holy Shroud. The chapel itself is a jewel of Renaissance architecture with a bell tower that once connected directly to the Shroud's chapel. The tour also passes through the covered porches under the noble palaces where cinemas and shops now sit, and touches on the Dominican friars' history and the Counter-Reformation's mark on the city.
