Eight hundred years of decoration cover the ceiling in gold.
A one-hour guided tour of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice with timed skip-the-line entry, a licensed guide in your chosen language, and access to the Pala d'Oro altarpiece and terrace as optional upgrades. The guide reads the Byzantine mosaics (the Pentecost dome, the Ascension, the Genesis cupola), while you skip the free-admission queue in the square.
Step-by-step itinerary
Visit St. Mark's Basilica and highlights
- Skip the line at entrance
- Explore golden mosaics and marble floors
- Admire Byzantine architecture
- View Pala d'Oro altarpiece
- Optional terrace visit for panoramic views
- See bronze horses at Loggia dei Cavalli
The Experience
St. Mark's Basilica holds roughly 8,000 square metres of gold-ground mosaic across its interior. A licensed guide walks you through the ceiling for an hour, naming what you're looking at: the Pentecost dome, the Ascension, the Genesis cupola with its week of creation. Your timed entry is booked in advance, so you walk past the queue outside and go straight in. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian or French depending on which option you choose at checkout.
The Pala d'Oro (a Byzantine altarpiece set with nearly 2,000 gems) is available as an add-on if you want to see it. The Loggia dei Cavalli, where the four bronze horses looted from Constantinople stand above the square, is also optional. Both are included in the terrace upgrade, which gives you access to the loggia and panoramic views over Piazza San Marco itself.
Strollers are welcome. Public transportation stops nearby. The whole visit fits into a single hour with the guide, so it works as a morning stop or a break between other plans in the city.

Is this one for you?The skip-the-line entry and fixed one-hour slot mean you see the mosaics without the queue outside, which matters if you're moving through Venice on a tight schedule or visiting during the morning rush. If you want to linger or explore the basilica on your own pace, a self-guided ticket might suit you better.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
In Spanish, French and Italian, at 10:00 and 14:00. In English, with 6 departure times.
Can children come?
6 to 17 years; under 6, free.
What exactly is the Pala d'Oro and is it worth adding to the tour?
The Pala d'Oro is the basilica's gold altarpiece adorned with nearly 2,000 precious stones and fine enamel work. It's a separate chamber inside the basilica, and your guide can show it to you if you select that option at checkout.
Can I see the bronze horses from inside the basilica, or do I need the terrace upgrade?
The four bronze horses stand on the Loggia dei Cavalli above St. Mark's Square. The terrace upgrade gives you access to the loggia itself and close-up views of the horses, plus panoramic views over the square.
Do I have to wait in line outside the basilica?
No. Your timed entry is booked in advance, so you skip the free-admission queue in the square and walk straight in at your scheduled time.
How long does the tour take?
The guided tour lasts one hour. If you add the Pala d'Oro or the terrace, the guide shows you those spaces within that same hour.
