The experience

You arrive at a working organic vineyard outside San Gimignano and start with a walk through the fields and vineyards themselves, not a tasting room first, but the land where the grapes grow. The walk ends under a large oak tree where you settle in for a welcome aperitivo before moving inside to the vinsantaia, the historical cellar where the wines age, and a collection of the farm's old agricultural tools.

The tasting spans eight wines: two Vernaccia di San Gimignano (one regular, two reserve vintages), a rosé, two Chianti selections, a Tuscan red, and a Vin Santo. Each wine arrives with food: a chopping board of cheeses and cured meats from neighboring farms, vegetables from the vineyard's own garden, and a tasting of their organic extra virgin olive oil. The Sangiovese called "Arturo" comes with tailor-made artisanal chocolate pralines. The Vin Santo closes with Tuscan Cantucci biscuits. Bottled water is provided throughout.

A live guide in English or Italian leads the group through the vineyard and the tasting, so you follow the commentary in whichever language works for you. Pickup is arranged, and the whole experience runs four hours.
