The experience
The walk starts at Quasano, at the gates of Alta Murgia National Park, where you leave behind the Tree of Lies and enter an oak grove on shaded paths. The route climbs a scenic hill overlooking the sea, moving through an ecosystem where wild boar, birds of prey, dragonflies and fireflies live among Mediterranean herbs and rare wild orchids. You'll reach a panoramic point where the Adriatic becomes visible across green expanses, then visit the centuries-old Oak La Gloria and the ancient Jazzo Lamadenza, a stone cistern that serves as habitat for amphibians.
The landscape itself tells the story: you're walking through a transhumance place, the kind of terrain shepherds and flocks moved through centuries ago. The karst blades, the characteristic rocky formations of Apulia, hold the ruins of ancient farms and pastoral sites. Along the way you'll taste the Mandorla di Toritto, a protected almond variety listed among Italy's traditional agri-food products, grown in the hamlet of Toritto nearby.
Private transportation picks you up and brings you back. The guide speaks English or Italian and leads the full three-hour walk. Children from age two are welcome, and the terrain is suitable for all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or pregnant travelers.
