The Experience

The boat departs from the port of Torre Vado and heads toward the southern tip of Italy's heel. You'll pass San Gregorio from the water, then move along the Ionian side to see the Marcheddu Tower and Dead Man's Tower. The crew points out Punta Ristola—the southernmost point of the peninsula—and then approaches Santa Maria di Leuca itself, where you see the Bagnarole caves, the 19th-century villas, the monumental cascade and the Sanctuary and Lighthouse from the sea. The route then reaches Punta Meliso, where the Ionian Sea meets the Adriatic.

Three designated stops break up the route for swimming and snorkeling. At each one, the crew offers fins and masks to anyone who wants to snorkel, and life jackets are available for those who don't swim. The boat itself is new, equipped with a 300 hp engine, a full kitchen and a complete awning so you're not forced to sit in direct sun the whole time. An aperitif of Prosecco di Valdobbiadene, peach tea and water is served on board and included in the price.

The tour runs three hours total and is narrated throughout by the crew in Italian. Groups stay under a dozen people, which means the boat doesn't feel crowded and the guide can actually be heard. Specialized infant seats are available if you're traveling with a baby.
